Background Information on Microbially Influenced Corrosion (MIC)

The term “Microbially Influenced Corrosion” (MIC) regards to microorganisms which cause or accelerate the destruction of surfaces of materials. This concerns metals, concrete, stones, polymers or other substances.

In order to fight corrosion it is important to know the root cause for it. This judgement should be done by experts.

To these experts AMODIA offers diagnostic analyses to confirm or exclude MIC. For a confirmed MIC, AMODIA offers further analysis to select the best measures to stop propagation of MIC.

Microbial Quality Control: The 'easy way'

The Standard Way: The standard procedure to perform microbial quality control in cosmetics (ISO 18415) is to cultivate one 1g or 1ml of product in two nutrition media for at least 24h: one suitable for bacteria, one for yeast and fungi. This ensures that a positive result is caused only by living cells. If one of these cultures is positive a second round of cultivation is required with selective media in order to exclude the presence of the four “specified microorganisms” (according to ISO 18415):

Technical Background: easyFlow® Test-kits

The innovative test-kits from the AMODIA easyFlow® series are able to detect viable microorganisms. Their comfortable and easy-to use handling - the test procedure itself needs only approx. 60 minutes - makes them suitable for hygiene control and microbial quality control. This is achieved by combining the sensitive and highly specific hybridization of nucleic acids with robust and easy-to-use lateral-flow dipsticks.

Technical Background: easyLAMP© Test-kits

The innovative test-kits from the AMODIA easyLAMP© series are able to detect microbial DNA within approx. 60 minutes. They were developed for industrial microbiological quality control in order to exclude the presence of specified microorganisms in a positive sample.

The easyLAMP© test-kits combine a sensitive and highly specific method for the isothermal amplification of nucleic acids (LAMP: loop-mediated amplification) with a detection on robust and easy-to-use lateral-flow dipsticks. Therefore the amplification products are labeled with probe molecules during the amplification. These probe molecules bind as well to the gold particles on the lateral-flow dipstick as to capture molecules on the test lines. During strip development the gold particles get concentrated on the test lines and form a line visible to the naked eye.
