In a previous project ("FerMiQ") a new biomarker was identified that directly measures a change in the microbiology of a biogas process: The DNA concentration of a specific group of syntrophic bacteria. Since then, this biomarker has been found in over 300 biogas plants, so it seems rather common. It reacts as early as FOS or FOS/TAC values, but is more indicative. The project „SynControl“ investigates if this syntrophic biomarker is also present in biogas digesters not fed with energy plants but with co-products and waste substrates from industry and agriculture.
The project „SynControl“ aims to identify new biomarkers in digesters not fed with energy plants but with co-products and waste substrates from industry and agriculture. Another goal is to investigate, if and how these new and the known biomarkers may be used for the surveillance and monitoring of biogas digesters.
