A new biomarker indicative for process incidents was identified: the DNA concentration of a certain group of syntrophic bacteria (“ASG-Syntrophics”)
This new biomarker reacts as early as the FOS or FOS/TAC markers, but it is more indicative: a decrease of an order of magnitude in the concentration points to a significant problem with the microbiology.
Based on this new biomarker a system to rate the microbiology was established, which like a traffic light could distinguish the states “okay” (green), “attention” (yellow) and “critical” (red).
One experiment hints that this new biomarker may be used to get 50% more biogas (thus 50% more methane) from am existing biogas plant.
